Nuka Research was contracted by the US EPA Region 1 to work with towns and their stakeholders in the Moosehead Lake Region in Maine to develop Geographic Response Strategies with local expertise provided through a workgroup engagement process. This project resulted in the development of 10 GRS for the Moosehead Lake Region, including Moosehead Lake and the surrounding watershed, and workgroup approved oil spill response tactics in various locations throughout the region. These GRS can be used by first responders or oil spill response contractors to protect environmentally sensitive areas and important resources identified by the workgroup or local stakeholders. To develop the GRS, ground field surveys were conducted to better understand local areas and ensure tactics would be feasible if deployed.
