Nuka Research analyzed vessel activity in Southeast Alaska for the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. The study began with Automated Identification System (AIS) data for 2018, adding research and assumptions regarding vessel fuel capacities of both persistent and non-persistent fuels, as well as fuel barge transport of non-persistent fuel products. The study presents estimated movements of fuel and fuel cargo across vessel types for different areas within Southeast Alaska, including those identified previously as being of higher navigational risk.
