Nuka Research was contracted by the Maine Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to both work with County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) directors throughout the state to develop County Extreme Temperature Response Plans.

The County Extreme Temperature Response Plan project involves an extensive stakeholder feedback process (in the form of surveys and focus group sessions) to outline the specific risks and challenges associated with extreme temperature events in each County, and a comprehensive literature review to identify the necessary preparedness and response actions and roles and responsibilities before, during, and after an extreme heat or cold event. The first round of County plans was completed in 2024 for Hancock and Washington Counties, and this work will be ongoing through at least 2025.
