Inland Geographic Response Strategy Development for the Connecticut River in Connecticut and the Meduxnekeag River in Maine

Nuka Research was contracted by the US EPA Region 1 to work with communities and stakeholders in Connecticut around portions of the Connecticut River (from Enfield/Suffield to Lyme/Essex) and Maine around portions of the Meduxnekeag River (from Houlton to Littleton) to develop Geographic Response Strategies with local expertise provided by two groups of stakeholders through a workgroup engagement process. These projects included the development of 15 GRS for the Connecticut River and 6 GRS for the Meduxnekeag River and resulted in workgroup approved oil spill response tactics for several areas along each river. These tactics can be used by first responders or oil spill response contractors to protect environmentally sensitive areas and important resources identified by the workgroup. The process of developing these GRS included conducting on the ground field surveys to ensure that tactics would work as intended.
