Massachusetts Oil and Hazardous Materials Commodity Flow Study

This study was prepared for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) to provide a comprehensive review of the transportation and storage of bulk oil and hazardous materials (OHM) throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This study analyzes transportation of materials across four modes: ship, truck, rail, and pipeline based on substance type and Department of Transportation (DOT) hazard class, focusing on data from 2013-2017. The results of this study are intended to support future emergency preparedness and to establish a framework for future analyses. They are also meant to enhance current data collection protocols to improve future analyses.
