North American Native Bee Inventories and Monitoring: Workshop and Report

In 2022, Nuka Research was contracted by the Commission on Environmental Cooperation (CEC) to bring together experts from Canada, Mexico, and the United States to identify tools and best practices of existing inventories and monitoring programs for native bees across North America.

In May 2022, a virtual workshop was hosted by the CEC that convened over 40 experts from different organizations in academia, government, and non-governmental organizations. These individuals shared existing monitoring and inventorying efforts, identified gaps in knowledge and shared priorities for native bee monitoring protocols, and laid the groundwork for future tri-lateral collaboration. As part of the effort, Nuka Research also launched a survey to gather input from workshop participants and other stakeholders on existing programs, to eventually build into a report of protocols and best practices.

The result? A newly published report titled: “North American Native Bee Inventories and Monitoring: Programs, Practices, and Considerations for Practitioners”. It serves as both a guide for standing up new programs and a tool for enhancing existing efforts.
